DGD Shredding’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions for 2023 were calculated to be 652,006 kgCO2 e and this was offset through Climate Impact Partners which offers carbon offset projects that are independently verified and audited to internationally agreed standards.
The project we chose was Microloans for solar lamps and water filters in India. The project enables women microentrepreneurs in rural areas of India to access funding for solar lamps and water filters and helps to build supply chains in remote regions. The women use these products for both their businesses (e.g. solar lamps to extend the opening hours of a small shop) and their homes (e.g. providing clean drinking water for family members).
Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
SDG 1 · No Poverty – The use of more energy-efficient products such as solar lamps and water filters significantly reduces the need for fuel. The money saved here can contribute to improving living conditions.
SDG 6 · Clean Water and Sanitation – Through this project’s water filters, thousands of households receive safe access to clean drinking water.
SDG 7 · Affordable and Clean Energy – Microenergy Credits enable low-income households to afford clean energy services such as solar lights.
SDG 8 · Decent Work and Economic Growth – By September 2023, 68 people had been employed in the project, 18 of them women and 50 men.
SDG 13 · Climate Action – The project saves about 406,840 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Project standard – Gold Standard VER (GS VER)
