As part of DGD Shredding’s Biodiversity Plan, we have committed to undertaking projects to improve biodiversity on our site, promote biodiversity and spread awareness, and donate to organisations that help improve biodiversity in the surrounding areas. Our Biodiversity Action Plan is integrated into our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
DGD Shredding is a committed supporter and participant of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, implement by The National Biodiversity Data Centre. The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan Business Framework is fully inclusive, allowing any business (large multi-site corporate, SME, microenterprise) to sign up to take actions for pollinators-biodiversity. Since joining we have installed a green roof providing a habitat within an industrial area, which will have significant benefits for wildlife, notably invertebrates and birds. This year we have constructed a raised bed with pollinator friendly plants. It has been designed using the AIPP Top Ten pollinator friendly plants for different situations guide. Beside the raised bed is a new insect hotel which was made from our own recycled pallets by a local Men’s Shed group.
